TEMIS Text Analytics solutions to be used
by SpringerLink content database.TEMIS indexing engine will be integrated in SpringerLink platform next release.
Heidelberg, Germany – January 23, 2007 – TEMIS, the leading provider of Text Analytics solutions has entered into a software licensing and services agreement with Springer Science+Business Media, the second largest publisher in the science, technology, and medicine (STM) sector, providing them with Luxid® Annotation Factory and Luxid® Information Mart software for their Semantic Linking project on SpringerLink.
This project is aimed at giving instant access to complex scientific documents and providing innovative navigation capabilities in online journals and encyclopaedias.
The enormous growth of electronically available content represents today a considerable challenge for large publishers such as Springer. To allow for an easier access to scientific content, breakthrough indexing technologies are required to turn large amounts of heterogeneous publications into a single and comprehensive knowledge space. Implicit semantic relations between otherwise unrelated articles also need to be detected and made available to the reader through the identification of relevant concepts and relationships.
The next-generation SpringerLink platform will enable users reading a text in a specific domain of knowledge, to be automatically connected to other specialized publications and encyclopaedias. For instance, when a psychologist reads an article about a specific nervous disease or when a materials engineer looks for information about new kinds of plastics, they will automatically be informed about other available publications linked to their centers of interest such as a specific pharmaceutical publication or a niche magazine on bionics.
"In order to support researchers in their everyday scientific content discovery, we developed the SpringerLink online platform which we are continuously extending and improving.”, explained Dr. Patrick Thibor, Director Content Management at Springer. "We are moving from digital information archiving towards a knowledge platform."
"The benefits of using TEMIS Text Analytics solutions are immediate for scientific publishers such as Springer.”, said Stefan Geißler, co-founder of TEMIS and Managing Director of TEMIS GmbH. “We provided Springer with mature, flexible and automated solutions which helped them to leverage their high volume of scientific content.”
With this collaboration, TEMIS adds another major reference to its existing customer base in the Publishing Industry, which already includes Thomson Scientific, MDL Elsevier, juris and Lexis-Nexis.
